Turbocharger Coolant Supply Tube: Removal

NOTE:
Whenever the turbocharger air intake system components are removed, always cover the open ports to protect them from debris. It is important that no foreign material enter the system. The turbocharger compressor vanes are susceptible to damage from even small particles. All of the components should be inspected and cleaned, if needed, prior to installation or reassembly.
NOTE:
Special attention needs to be given to the sealing ports for the oil feed, the oil drain, and the coolant lines, on turbocharged engines. The sealing ports must be totally clean and free from O-ring residue, have no damage to the sealing surface and the lines to ensure that there are no leaks or repeat repairs.
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
- Drain the cooling system. Refer to: Engine Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling And Bleeding .
- Remove retainers and the underbody shield.
- If equipped, remove the retainers and the underbody shield.
- Disconnect the TC bypass valve electrical connector and detach the harness retainer from the studbolt. Disconnect the TC bypass hose clamp and the TC bypass hose. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
- Remove the TC outlet pipe retaining nuts. Loosen the TC outlet pipe clamps and then remove the TC outlet pipe.
- Remove the catalytic converter. Refer to: Catalytic Converter .
- Remove the TC coolant tube bolts, disconnect the hose and then remove the TC coolant tubes. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

NOTE: Inspect the turbocharger tube and the sealing surfaces. Ensure that the retaining bracket is not bent, check for square-ness of the retaining bracket to the O-ring area. Use brake cleaner and a NYLON brush to clean. DO-NOT USE A METAL BRUSH; DAMAGE TO SEALING AREA WILL RESULT IN LEAKS.NOTE: Inspect the banjo bolt, the line surface for flatness and square-ness and the sealing surface for damage. ALWAYS USE NEW SEALING WASHERS. Use brake cleaner and a NYLON brush to clean. DO-NOT USE A METAL BRUSH; DAMAGE TO SEALING AREA WILL RESULT IN LEAKS.
Remove and discard the turbocharger coolant tube sealing washers. Remove and discard the turbocharger coolant tube O-ring seals.
Material: Motorcraft® Metal Brake Parts Cleaner / PM-4-A, PM-4-B
- Remove the TC coolant tube clamp bolt and then remove the TC coolant tube clamp. Separate the TC coolant supply tube from the TC coolant return tube.
