Block Heater: Removal

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
  1. WARNING: Before beginning any service procedure, refer to Safety Warnings in General Information. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.

    Refer to: Engine Cooling System Health and Safety Precautions .

  2. Drain the cooling system. Refer to: Engine Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding .
  3. If equipped. Remove the retainers and the under body shield.

  4. Remove the LH catalytic converter. Refer to: Catalytic Converter LH .
  5. NOTE: Note the position of the component before removal.
    NOTE: Make sure that the component is installed to the position noted before removal.
    NOTE: If a new block heater is being installed do not use sealer on the threads of the block heater or block opening. Sealer is pre-applied to the block heater threads.

    1. Release the electrical connector locking retainer.
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector.
    3. Remove the block heater.

      Material: Motorcraft® Threadlock 262 / TA-26 (WSK-M2G351-A6)

      Torque: 41 lb.ft (55 Nm)
