Coolant Pump: Removal

  1. WARNING: Before beginning any service procedure, refer to Safety Warnings in General Information. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.

    Refer to: Engine Cooling System Health and Safety Precautions .

  2. Drain the cooling system. Refer to: Engine Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding .
  3. NOTE: Do not pull the engine appearance cover forward or sideways to remove. Failure to press straight upward on the underside of the cover at the attachment points may result in damage to the cover or engine components.

    1. Place your hand under the engine appearance cover at each grommet location and push straight up to release each grommet from the studs.
    2. After all of the grommets have been released from the studs, remove the appearance cover from the engine.

  4. Loosen the coolant pump pulley bolts.

  5. NOTE: Make sure the accessory drive belt is positioned so coolant can not contaminate the belt.

    Rotate the accessory drive belt tensioner and remove the accessory drive belt.

  6. NOTE: Cover the A/C belt to prevent coolant contamination of the belt.

    Completely cover the A/C belt with waterproof plastic.

  7. Remove the bolts and the coolant pump pulley.

  8. Remove the bolts and the coolant pump. Discard the O-ring seal.
