Oil Pan: Removal

LHD AWD/LHD FWD 

NOTE: During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces, that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan, may cause engine failure.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  2. Remove the following items:

    1. Remove the air cleaner. Refer to: Air Cleaner .
    2. Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe .
    3. Remove the battery tray. Refer to: Battery Tray .

  3. Remove the oil level indicator.

    • Disconnect the retainers and position the engine wire harness as needed.

    • Remove the starter stud bolt.

  5. Loosen the upper bellhousing-to-engine bolts 5 mm (0.19 in).

  6. Remove the retainers and the splash shields.

  7. Remove the following items:

    1. Remove the exhaust Y-pipe. Refer to: Exhaust Y-Pipe .
    2. Remove the roll restrictor. Refer to: Roll Restrictor RH - 3.5L Duratec (212kW/278PS) .

  8. Remove the oil pan plug and drain the engine oil. Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment

    Torque: 20 lb.ft (27 Nm)

  9. Remove and discard the engine oil filter. Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment

    LHD AWD 

  10. Remove the following items:

    1. Remove the RH catalytic converter. Refer to: Catalytic Converter RH .
    2. Remove the RH wheel and tire. Refer to: Wheel and Tire .

  11. Remove the bolts and the PTU (power transfer unit) bracket.

  12. Remove the retainers and the inspection cover.

  13. Remove the A/C compressor bolt.

  14. Loosen the LH bellhousing-to-engine cooling bolts 5 mm (0.19 in).

    Loosen the RH engine-to-bellhousing bolt 5 mm (0.19 in).

  16. Remove the nuts for the LH catalytic converter bracket.

  17. Remove the oil pan-to-bellhousing bolts and the LH catalytic converter bracket.

  18. Separate the engine and transaxle 5 mm (0.19 in).

  19. Remove the lower engine front cover bolts.

    Using a pry tool on the pry pads, remove the oil pan.

    • Thoroughly wash the oil pan to remove any foreign material, including any abrasive particles created during the cleaning process.

    • Clean and prepare the RTV sealing surface.

    • Thoroughly wash the engine front cover to remove any foreign material, including any abrasive particles created during the cleaning process.

  24. Clean and prepare the RTV sealing surface. Refer to: RTV Sealing Surface Cleaning and Preparation .
