Oil Pump: Removal

NOTE: During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces, that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan, can cause engine failure.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  2. Remove the oil pan. Refer to: Oil Pan .
    1. Rotate the oil pump drive chain tensioner counterclockwise.
    2. Insert a small hex wrench or pin into the holes of the tensioner to secure the end of the spring.

    1. Remove the oil pump bolts.
    2. Lower the rear of the oil pump assembly.
    3. Separate the oil pump sprocket from the oil pump drive chain.
