Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
When the ABS module receives a parking brake apply request, the ABS module sends voltage to the parking brake actuator motors. The ABS module also monitors the current draw of the actuator motors to determine when the brake pads contact the brake disc and to determine when the appropriate amount of clamping force is being applied to the brake disc. If the actuator motors are unable to apply the appropriate amount of clamping force for a predetermined amount of time, the ABS module sets a DTC. The most likely cause of this is a broken actuator motor shaft, a missing or severely worn brake pad or a damaged or severely worn brake disc.
Once the root cause of the DTC has been repaired, the parking brake system must be enabled. To enable the parking brake system, cycle the ignition from ON to OFF and back to ON, then apply and release the parking brake.
