Valve Cover: Installation

  1. NOTE: Installation of new seals is only required if damaged seals were removed during disassembly of the engine.

    If removed, using the special tools, install the VCT oil control solenoid seals. Use Special Service Tool: 205-153 (T80T-4000-W) Handle., 303-1247 VCT Spark Plug Tube Seal Remover and Installer.

  2. Install a new valve cover gasket.

  3. Apply a 5.5 mm (0.22 in) bead of silicone sealant in the 6 places shown.

    Material: Motorcraft® High Performance Engine RTV Silicone / TA-357 (WSE-M4G323-A6)

  4. NOTE: The valve cover must be secured within 10 minutes of silicone gasket application. If the valve cover is not secured within 10 minutes, the sealant must be removed and the sealing area cleaned.

    Install the valve cover and tighten the fasteners.

    Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

    • Position and attach the turbocharger control valve vacuum tube retainers.

    • Attach the CHT wiring harness retainer.

  5. Connect the vacuum tubes at the brake vacuum pump.

  6. Install the exhaust CMP sensor and the bolt.

    Torque: 62 lb.in (7 Nm)

  7. Attach the PCM wiring harness retainer to the engine mount stud.

    • Attach the wiring harness retainers.

    • Connect the CMP sensor electrical connectors.

    • Connect the VCT oil control solenoid electrical connectors.

  8. Connect the MAPT sensor electrical connector.

  9. Install the ignition coil-on-plugs. Refer to: Ignition Coil-On-Plug .
    1. Install the turbocharger inlet pipe, engine appearance cover stud and tighten clamp and stud.

      Torque: 44 lb.in (5 Nm)

    2. Install the turbocharger inlet pipe bolt.

      Torque: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)

    3. Connect the CAC bypass hose. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

  10. Install the underbody shield and the retainers.

  11. Install the crankcase vent tube, connect the electrical connector and wiring harness retainer.

  12. Install the air cleaner outlet tube. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe .
  13. Install the oil level indicator.

    1. NOTE: Lubricating the grommets with silicone grease will aid in the installation of the engine appearance cover, and any future removal and installation of the cover.

      Lubricate each grommet with silicone grease.

      Material: Motorcraft® Silicone Brake Caliper Grease and Dielectric Compound / XG-3-A (ESE-M1C171-A)

    2. Position the engine appearance cover onto engine with the grommets aligned with the studs.
    3. Press down on the engine appearance cover at each grommet location to attach the grommets onto the studs.
