Oil Pump: Installation

  1. Prime the oil pump. Add 2 tablespoons of clean engine oil to the oil pump and rotate the oil pump by hand.
  2. NOTE: Some engines may not be equipped with an oil pump mounting gasket from the factory. When assembling components, always install a gasket. Adding a gasket is transparent to oil pump fit and function.

    Install the oil pump and the bolts.

    Torque: Stage 1: 89 lb.in (10 Nm) Stage 2: 177 lb.in (20 Nm)

  3. Install the oil pump sprocket and bolt.

    Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

    1. WARNING: Take extra care when handling the compressed spring.

      Install the oil pump drive chain, tensioner and the shoulder bolts.

      Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

    2. Hook the tensioner spring around the shoulder bolt.

  4. Install the oil screen and pickup tube O-ring seal.

  5. Install the oil screen and pickup tube and the bolts.

    Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

  6. NOTE: If the oil pan is not secured within 10 minutes of sealant application, the sealant must be removed and the sealing area cleaned with metal surface prep. Allow to dry until there is no sign of wetness, or 10 minutes, whichever is longer. Failure to follow this procedure can cause future oil leakage.

    Apply a 3 mm bead of silicone sealant.

    Material: Motorcraft® High Performance Engine RTV Silicone / TA-357 (WSE-M4G323-A6)

  7. Install the oil pan and the bolts finger tight.

  8. Align the front surface of the oil pan flush with the front surface of the engine block. Use the General Equipment: Round-Ended Steel Rule

  9. Tighten the bolts in sequence shown.

    Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

  10. Install the oil pan bolt.

    Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

  11. Install the oil pan bolts.

    Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

  12. Lubricate the oil filter seal with clean engine oil and install.

    Material: Engine Oil - SAE 5W-30 - Synthetic Blend Motor Oil / XO-5W30-Q1SP (WSS-M2C946-B1)

    Torque: Stage 1: 71 lb.in (8 Nm) Stage 2: 180 deg.

    1. Position the A/C compressor and install the stud.

      Torque: 80 lb.in (9 Nm)

    2. Install the A/C compressor bolts and nut.

      Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

    • Connect the electrical connectors and wiring retainer.

    1. Install the CAC inlet tube and the nuts.

      Torque: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)

    2. Tighten the clamp.

      Torque: 44 lb.in (5 Nm)

  13. Tighten the CAC inlet tube clamp.

    Torque: 44 lb.in (5 Nm)

  14. Position the jack and wooden block under the front of the oil pan to support the engine. Use the General Equipment: Trolley Jack. Use the General Equipment: Wooden Block

  15. Remove Special Service Tool: 303-F070 Support Bar, Engine.

  16. Install the RH finish panel and the retainers.

    Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

  17. Install the LH finish panel and the retainers.

    Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

  18. If necessary. Remove Special Service Tool: 303-050 (T70P-6000) Lifting Bracket, Engine.

  19. Install the following items:

    1. Refer to: Engine Front Cover .
    2. Refer to: Cowl Panel .

  20. Connect the battery negative battery cable. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
  21. Fill the engine with clean engine oil. Refer to: Specifications .

    Material: Engine Oil - SAE 5W-30 - Synthetic Blend Motor Oil / XO-5W30-Q1SP (WSS-M2C946-B1)
