Intake Manifold: Removal

- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
- Disconnect the battery ground. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .

NOTE: Do not pull the engine appearance cover forward or sideways to remove. Failure to press straight upward on the underside of the cover at the attachment points may result in damage to the cover or engine components.
- Place your hand under the engine appearance cover at each grommet location and push straight up to release each grommet from the studs.
- After all of the grommets have been released from the studs, remove the appearance cover from the engine.
- Remove the EVAP canister purge valve. Refer to: Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Valve .

- Disconnect the MAP sensor electrical connector.
- Remove the intake manifold insulator.

- Rotate the accessory drive belt tensioner counterclockwise.
- Position the accessory drive belt aside.
- Rotate the accessory drive belt tensioner clockwise.
- Remove the bolts and the accessory drive belt tensioner.
Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
- Loosen the clamp and position the CAC tube off the throttle body.
Torque: 48 lb.in (5.4 Nm)

- Push the intake manifold retainer in.
- Remove and position the brake vacuum tube aside.
- Remove retainers and the underbody shield.
- Disconnect the throttle body electrical connector and retainer.
- Remove the bolts and position the intake manifold aside.
- Disconnect the crankcase vent oil separator tube, KS sensors and remove the intake manifold.

NOTE: If the engine is repaired or replaced because of upper engine failure, typically including valve or piston damage, check the intake manifold for metal debris. If metal debris is found, install a new intake manifold. Failure to follow these instructions can result in engine damage.
- Visually inspect the intake manifold gaskets for nicks, cuts and abrasions. If these conditions are not present, the gaskets may be reused.
- Clean and inspect all of the sealing surfaces of the intake manifold.
