Cylinder Head: Installation

LHD AWD/LHD FWD 

1. Install the new cylinder head gasket.

2. NOTE: The cylinder head bolts are torque-to-yield and must not be reused. New cylinder head bolts must be installed.

   Install the cylinder head and the 10 new bolts and tighten in 5 stages.

   Torque: Stage 1: 62 lb.in (7 Nm) Stage 2: 133 lb.in (15 Nm) Stage 3: 41 lb.ft (55 Nm) Stage 4: 90 deg. Stage 5: 90 deg.

3. Lubricate the coolant tube O-ring seal with clean engine coolant.

   Material: Motorcraft® Orange Prediluted Antifreeze/Coolant / VC-3DIL-B (WSS-M97B44-D2)

4. • Connect the CHT sensor and slide the insulator down.
   • NOTE: The coolant tube must be fully seated prior to tighten the bolt.

     Install the coolant tube and bolt.

     Torque: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)

5. Connect the ECT sensor and the coolant hoses. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

6. Install the wiring harness ground and bolt.

   Torque: 177 lb.in (20 Nm)

7. Connect the fuel injector and the FRP sensor electrical connectors.

8. Position and connect the coolant tube. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

9. • Install the fuel rail insulator shield.
   • Attach the wiring harness retainers.
   • Connect and attach the fuel rail electrical connector.

10. Lubricate with clean engine oil and install the valve tappets.

    Material: Engine Oil - SAE 5W-30 - Synthetic Blend Motor Oil / XO-5W30-Q1SP (WSS-M2C946-B1)

11. Install the following items:
    1. Refer to: Camshafts .
    2. Refer to: Intake Manifold .

12. Remove and discard the engine oil filter.

13. Remove the oil pan drain bolt and drain the engine oil. Install the oil pan drain bolt. Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment

    Torque: 20 lb.ft (27 Nm)

14. Install the new engine oil filter.

    Material: Engine Oil - SAE 5W-30 - Synthetic Blend Motor Oil / XO-5W30-Q1SP (WSS-M2C946-B1)

    Torque: Stage 1: 71 lb.in (8 Nm) Stage 2: 180 deg.

15. Install the jack and block of wood. Use the General Equipment: Trolley Jack. Use the General Equipment: Wooden Block

16. 1. Remove the engine mount nuts and discard.
    2. Remove the engine mount bolts and discard.
    3. Remove the engine mount nut and discard.

17. Install the turbocharger. Refer to: Turbocharger .
18. Connect the battery ground. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
19. 1. NOTE: Lubricating the grommets with silicone grease will aid in the installation of the engine appearance cover, and any future removal and installation of the cover.

       Lubricate each grommet with silicone grease.

       Material: Motorcraft® Silicone Brake Caliper Grease and Dielectric Compound / XG-3-A (ESE-M1C171-A)

    2. Position the engine appearance cover onto engine with the grommets aligned with the studs.
    3. Press down on the engine appearance cover at each grommet location to attach the grommets onto the studs.

20. Fill the engine with clean engine oil. Refer to: Specifications .

    Material: Engine Oil - SAE 5W-30 - Synthetic Blend Motor Oil / XO-5W30-Q1SP (WSS-M2C946-B1)

21. Fill the cooling system. Refer to: Engine Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding .
