Driver Airbag: Removal

WARNING: The following procedure prescribes critical repair steps required for correct restraint system operation during a crash. Follow all notes and steps carefully. Failure to follow step instructions may result in incorrect operation of the restraint system and increases the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.
- Depower the SRS. Refer to: Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering .
- At the bottom of the steering wheel cover, locate the hole and insert a 3 mm (0.125 inch) Allen key.

NOTE: The driver airbag has been removed for clarity.
Angle the inserted end of the Allen key toward the front of the vehicle and the steering wheel guide will align the Allen key to contact the spring clip.

- Push in on the Allen key and disengage the spring clip.
- Pull the bottom end of the driver airbag out and separate it from the steering wheel.

- Pull up firmly on the LH side of the driver airbag and disengage it from the spring clip.
- Pull up firmly on the RH side of the driver airbag and disengage it from the spring clip.

NOTE: Dual stage driver airbag shown, single stage driver airbag similar.
Disconnect the electrical connectors.
