Roof Opening Panel Frame: Removal

  1. Open the vehicle windows.

  2. Remove the roof opening panel sliding glass. Refer to: Roof Opening Panel Glass .
  3. Using a masking tape, double tape the windshield and body panel to protect the surfaces. Use the General Equipment: Adhesive Tape

  4. Remove the rear spoiler. Refer to: Rear Spoiler .
  5. Remove the headliner. Refer to: Headliner .
  6. Remove the antenna. Without touchscreen, refer to: Satellite Radio Antenna . With Touchscreen, refer to: Satellite Radio Antenna . With SONY, refer to: Satellite Radio Antenna .
  7. Remove all 5 roof opening panel exterior trim panels. Refer to: Roof Opening Panel Front Trim . Refer to: Roof Opening Panel Side Trim .
  8. Reposition the necessary wiring harness's for access.

    1. Remove the 2 roof opening panel jumper harness ground wire nuts.
    2. Remove the roof opening panel jumper harness ground wire bolt.
    3. Disconnect the roof opening panel jumper harness connector from the vehicle harness.
    4. Release the jumper harness from the retaining clips and position the harness aside.
    5. NOTE: It is not necessary to disconnect the electrical connector from the side curtain air bags.

      On both sides. Disconnect the side curtain air bag wiring harness routing clip and position the harness aside.

  9. NOTE: Avoid scratching the painted surfaces. Repair all minor scratches or exposed metal following manufacturer's instructions. Use the same brand metal primer, glass primer and urethane adhesive.

    A new roof opening panel frame must be installed within 2 hours of cutting the urethane adhesive. Cut or scraped urethane becomes oxidized and inactive beyond 2 hours, reducing the effectiveness of the repair bond.

    Lubricate the existing urethane adhesive with water to aid while cutting.

    Protective tape not shown for clarity of vehicle detail. Cut the urethane attaching the roof opening panel frame assembly to the vehicle.

    1. NOTE: To protect cutting tools, avoid the guide pin locations.
    2. Using a spatula with a power fixed glass removal tool or a cold knife, cut the urethane along the rear of the vehicle. Use the General Equipment: Power Fixed Glass Removal Tool. Use the General Equipment: Spatula. Use the General Equipment: Cold Knife
    3. With the help of an assistant, using a glass cut out wire, cut the remaining urethane path. Use the General Equipment: Glass Cut-Out Wire

  10. With the help of an assistant, remove the roof opening panel frame.
