Power Transfer Unit

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  2. If equipped. Remove the underbody shield.

  3. Remove the rear driveshaft. Refer to: Rear Halfshaft .
    • Loosen the clamp, remove the nuts and the CAC inlet tube.
    • Loosen the clamp and disconnect the CAC outlet tube.

  4. Remove the catalytic converter. Refer to: Catalytic Converter - 1.5L EcoBoost , Catalytic Converter - 2.0L EcoBoost , Catalytic Converter - 2.5L Duratec .
  5. Remove the PTU heat shield bolts and the heat shield.

  6. Remove the front halfshaft RH. Refer to: Front Halfshaft RH .
  7. Disconnect the PTU vent hose and position it aside.

  8. Remove the PTU drain plug.

  9. Remove the PTU support bracket and bolts.

  10. Remove and discard the upper PTU bolts.

  11. Remove and discard the lower PTU bolts.

  12. Remove the PTU.
