Oil Pan: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. NOTE: Do not Use metal scrapers, plastic scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges, which make leak paths.
    NOTE: Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign material.

    Do not Use any type of scrapers.  There is a rubber sealing surface on the bottom of the crankshaft rear seal, take extra care when cleaning the specified area by peeling off the old sealant by hand.

  2. NOTE: Do not Use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges, which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove traces of sealant.
    NOTE: Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign material.

    Clean only the specified area with the specified material and a plastic scraping tool to remove traces of sealant. Refer to: RTV Sealing Surface Cleaning and Preparation .

    Use the General Equipment: Plastic Scraper

    Material: Motorcraft ® Silicone Gasket Remover / ZC-30-A

    Material: Motorcraft ® Metal Brake Parts Cleaner / PM-4-A, PM-4-B

    Material: Motorcraft ® Metal Surface Prep Wipes / ZC-31-B

    Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign material. Refer to: RTV Sealing Surface Cleaning and Preparation .

    Use the General Equipment: Plastic Scraper

    Material: Motorcraft ® Silicone Gasket Remover / ZC-30-A

    Material: Motorcraft ® Metal Brake Parts Cleaner / PM-4-A, PM-4-B

    Material: Motorcraft ® Metal Surface Prep Wipes / ZC-31-B

  4. Install the following items:

    • NOTE: The Use of the two studs will aid in the alignment of the oil pan.

      Install the two M8x20 studs.

  5. NOTE: The component must be installed within 5 minutes of applying the sealant.

    Apply a 3.5 mm (0.137 in) bead of silicone sealant.

    Material: Motorcraft ® Silicone Gasket and Sealant / TA-30 (WSE-M4G323-A4)

  6. Install the oil pan and remove the alignment studs.

  7. NOTE: Only tighten the bolts finger tight at this stage.

    Install the oil pan bolts finger-tight.

  8. Tighten the oil pan bolts in sequence shown below.

    Torque:

    1 - 4: 35 lb.ft (47 Nm)

    5 - 17: 168 lb.in (19 Nm)

  9. Lubricate and install the new engine oil filter.

    Material: Motorcraft ® SAE 5W-20 Synthetic Blend Motor Oil / XO-5W20-QSP (WSS-M2C945-A)

    Torque: 128 lb.in (14.5 Nm)

  10. Position the coolant hoses assembly and install the bolts.

    Torque: 17 lb.ft (23 Nm)

  11. Install the engine undershield and the retainers.

  12. Fill the engine with engine oil.

    Material: Motorcraft ® SAE 5W-20 Synthetic Blend Motor Oil / XO-5W20-QSP (WSS-M2C945-A)

  13. Install the oil level indicator.
