Transmission Fluid Cooler Tubes: Installation

  1. Position the transmission fluid auxiliary cooler tube assembly.

  2. Install the transmission fluid auxiliary cooler. Refer to: Transmission Fluid Auxiliary Cooler .
  3. Position the transmission fluid auxiliary cooler tube assembly-to-cooler bypass valve tube.

  4. Connect the transmission fluid auxiliary cooler tube assembly-to-cooler bypass valve tube quick connect coupling.

  5. Install the transmission fluid auxiliary cooler tube assembly-to-cooler bypass valve tube quick connect coupling secondary latch.

  6. Install the engine undershield and the fasteners.

  7. Install the LH fender splash shield. Refer to: Fender Splash Shield .
  8. Connect the transmission fluid auxiliary cooler tube assembly-to-cooler bypass valve tube to the valve and tighten the fitting.

    Torque: 22 lb.ft (30 Nm)

  9. Inspect the transmission fluid cooler tube assembly backing rings and seals for damage and install new backing rings or seals if necessary.

    1. Backing ring (7J324)
    2. Seal (7D285)

      Material: Motorcraft ® MERCON ® LV Automatic Transmission Fluid / XT-10-QLVC (MERCON ® LV) (WSS-M2C938-A)

  10. Install the cooler bypass valve-to-transmission tube and the bolt.

    Torque: 80 lb.in (9 Nm)

  11. Tighten the cooler bypass valve-to-transmission tube fitting.

    Torque: 22 lb.ft (30 Nm)

  12. Inspect the transmission fluid cooler tube assembly backing rings and seals for damage and install new backing rings or seals if necessary.

    1. Backing ring (7J324)
    2. Seal (7D285)

      Material: Motorcraft ® MERCON ® LV Automatic Transmission Fluid / XT-10-QLVC (MERCON ® LV) (WSS-M2C938-A)

  13. Install the transmission-to-cooler bypass valve tube and tighten the fitting.

    Torque: 22 lb.ft (30 Nm)

  14. Connect the transmission-to-cooler bypass valve tube to the transmission and install the bolt.

  15. Position the selector lever cable, install the bolts, and connect the selector lever cable to the transmission manual lever.

    Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

  16. Inspect the transmission fluid cooler tube assembly backing rings and seals for damage and install new backing rings or seals if necessary.

    1. Backing ring (7J324)
    2. Seal (7D285)

      Material: Motorcraft ® MERCON ® LV Automatic Transmission Fluid / XT-10-QLVC (MERCON ® LV) (WSS-M2C938-A)

  17. Install the cooler bypass valve-to-transmission fluid cooler tube.

    1. Tighten the fitting.

      Torque: 22 lb.ft (30 Nm)

    2. Install the studbolt.

      Torque: 80 lb.in (9 Nm)

  18. NOTE: Do not install the air cleaner at this time.

    Install the battery tray. Refer to: Battery Tray .

  19. Inspect the transmission fluid cooler tube assembly backing rings and seals for damage and install new backing rings or seals if necessary.

    1. Backing ring (7J324)
    2. Seal (7D285)

      Material: Motorcraft ® MERCON ® LV Automatic Transmission Fluid / XT-10-QLVC (MERCON ® LV) (WSS-M2C938-A)

  20. Install the transmission fluid cooler-to-transmission fluid auxiliary cooler tube assembly tube and the nut.

    Torque: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)

  21. Install the transmission fluid cooler-to-transmission fluid auxiliary cooler tube assembly tube studbolt to the transmission fluid cooler.

    Torque: 80 lb.in (9 Nm)

  22. Connect the coolant hose standoff to the transmission fluid cooler tube studbolt.

  23. Connect the transmission fluid cooler-to-transmission fluid auxiliary cooler tube assembly tube quick connect coupling.

  24. Adjust the selector lever cable. Refer to: Selector Lever Cable Adjustment - 6-Speed Automatic Transmission - 6F50/6F55 .
  25. Install the air cleaner. Refer to: Air Cleaner .
  26. Check the transmission fluid level and adjust as necessary. Refer to: Transmission Fluid Level Check .
