Cooler Bypass Valve: Removal

  1. Remove the battery tray. Refer to: Battery Tray .
  2. Disconnect the coolant hose standoff from the transmission fluid cooler tube studbolt.

  3. NOTE: Be prepared to collect escaping fluid.

    Remove the cooler bypass valve-to-transmission fluid cooler tube.

    1. Completely loosen the fitting.
    2. Remove the studbolt and the tube.

  4. Inspect the transmission fluid cooler to be sure the transmission fluid tube seal and backing ring were removed with the transmission fluid tube and are not stuck in the transmission fluid cooler. If the transmission fluid tube seal or backing ring are stuck in the transmission fluid cooler, remove the seal and backing ring.

  5. Completely loosen the bypass valve tube fittings and disconnect the tubes.

  6. Remove the nut, the bolt and the cooler bypass valve.
