- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to : Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
- Release the fuel pressure. Refer to : Fuel System Pressure Release .
- Evacuate the A/C system. Refer to : Air Conditioning (A/C) System Recovery, Evacuation and Charging - Vehicles With: R1234YF Refrigerant .
- Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to : Battery Disconnect and Connect .

NOTE: Use a steering wheel holding device (such as Hunter ® 28-75-1 or equivalent).
Using a suitable holding tool, hold the steering wheel in the straight-ahead position.

NOTE: Do not allow the intermediate shaft to rotate while it is disconnected from the gear or damage to the clockspring can occur. If there is evidence that the intermediate shaft has rotated, the clockspring must be removed and recentered. Refer to Supplemental Restraint System .
- Remove and discard the steering intermediate shaft bolt.
- Separate the steering intermediate shaft from the steering gear.
- Remove and discard the engine oil filter and drain the engine oil. Refer to : Engine Oil Draining and Filling .
- Support the cooling module.
- Drain the engine cooling system. Refer to : Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding .
- Remove the front fender splash shields. Refer to : Fender Splash Shield .
- Remove the retainers and the underbody shield.
- If equipped, remove the retainers and the front underbody straps.
- Remove the retainers and the underbody shields.

- Remove the nut.
- Remove the bolt.
- Remove the engine appearance cover.
- If the engine appearance cover stud bolt is loosened or removed, it must be installed/tightened into the intake manifold.
Torque: 62 lb. in (7 Nm)
- If equipped, remove the retainer and the wiring harness cover.
- Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connectors and detach the wiring harness retainer.
- Detach the wiring harness retainer from the engine mount.
- Remove the following items:

NOTE: It is not necessary to clamp off the degas bottle hose with the cooling system drained.
Refer to: Degas Bottle .
- Refer to: Air Cleaner .
- Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe LH .
- Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe RH .
- Refer to: Charge Air Cooler (CAC) Intake Pipe .

- Loosen the clamps and remove the upper CAC outlet pipe.
- Remove the following items:
- Refer to: Accessory Drive Belt .
- Refer to: Air Conditioning (A/C) Compressor .
- Refer to: Battery Tray .
- Remove the stud bolt and position aside the ground cable.
-
- Release the tabs.
- Lift and position top part of junction box aside.
- Release the tabs and open the battery cable terminal cover.
- Remove the nuts and position the wiring harness aside.
- Remove the ground wire bolt and detach the wiring harness retainers.
- Disconnect the vacuum tube quick release couplings and position the tube aside. Refer to : Quick Release Coupling
.

- Detach the cable from the transmission control lever.
- Remove the bolt and position the cable aside.
- Detach the heater hose from the retainers.
-
NOTE: Note the position of the coolant hoses for installation.
Disconnect the coolant hoses from the heater core. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

- Release the clamp and disconnect the lower radiator hose. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
- Release the clamp and disconnect the heater hose. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
- Detach the heater hose retainer.
- Remove the bolt and position the heater hose aside.
- Disconnect the upper radiator hose. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

- Remove the ground wire bolt.
- Detach the retainers and position the ground wire aside.
-
- Position the high-pressure fuel pump noise insulator aside and disconnect the high-pressure fuel pump fuel feed tube quick release coupling. Refer to : Quick Release Coupling .
- Disconnect the EVAP tube quick release coupling. Refer to : Quick Release Coupling .
- Remove the transmission fluid warmer to transmission fluid cooler tube secondary latch.
- Using the special tool, disconnect the transmission fluid warmer to transmission fluid cooler tube. Use Special Service Tool: 307-569 Disconnect Tool TOC Line (1/2).
- Remove the transmission fluid cooler to transmission cooler bypass valve tube secondary latch.
- Using the special tool, disconnect the transmission fluid cooler to transmission cooler bypass valve tube. Use Special Service Tool: 307-569 Disconnect Tool TOC Line (1/2).
- Detach and disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector.
- Disconnect the coolant tubes and detach the retainer.
- Remove the generator nut.

- Detach the wiring harness retainer.
- Position the A/C line bracket from the generator stud.
- Remove the front ride height sensors. Refer to : Front Suspension Height Sensor .
- Remove the bolt and the LH anti-lock sensor.

NOTE: Use the internal or external hex-holding feature to prevent the ball and stud from turning while removing or installing the stabilizer bar link nuts. The link boot seal must not be allowed to twist while tightening the link nuts or damage to the boot seal will occur.
Remove the nut and position the LH sway bar link aside.

Remove the nut and position the RH sway bar link aside.

- Loosen the tie rod end jam nut.
- Remove and discard the outer tie rod end nut.

NOTE: Do not Use a hammer to separate the outer tie-rod end from the wheel spindle or damage to the wheel spindle may result.NOTE: Use care when installing the tie rod end remover or damage to the outer tie-rod end boot may occur.
Separate the outer tie rod end from the wheel knuckle. Use the General Equipment: Tie Rod End Remover
- Remove the nuts and the subframe support bracket.
- Remove the following items:
- RH front halfshaft. Refer to : Front Halfshaft RH .

NOTE: Do not allow the brake caliper and anchor plate assembly to hang from the brake hose or damage to the hose can occur.
Remove the LH brake disc. Refer to : Brake Disc .
- Refer to: Exhaust Flexible Pipe .
- Refer to: Catalytic Converter LH .
- Refer to: Rear Driveshaft .
- Loosen the PTU bolts 19 mm (0. 75 in).
- Mark the subframe location.
- Mark the subframe location.

NOTE: Make sure the cooling module is secure.
Remove the fasteners and the cooling module support panel.

NOTE: The boards must be positioned to properly support the engine, transmission and subframe, and allow clearance between the powertrain jack and the exhaust components to prevent damage.
Position lengths of 2 x 6 boards on the powertrain jack to support the oil pan, transmission and subframe. Use the General Equipment: Powertrain Jack Use the General Equipment: Wooden Block

Position the powertrain jack and boards under the engine, transmission and subframe. Use the General Equipment: Powertrain Jack Use the General Equipment: Wooden Block
- Remove the engine-to-transmission bolt.

- Position the powertrain jack and boards under the powertrain and subframe. Use the General Equipment: Powertrain Jack Use the General Equipment: Wooden Block
- Install. Use the General Equipment: Adjustable Mounting Arm
- Remove and discard the nuts and bolts.
- Separate the LH knuckle from the strut.
-
- Remove and discard the engine mount-to-engine nuts.
- Remove and discard the engine mount-to-frame nut.
- Remove and discard the engine mount-to-frame bolts.
- Remove the engine mount.
- Remove the nuts, the bolt and the transmission support insulator bracket.
- Remove and discard the transmission mount bolts.

- Remove and discard the subframe bolts.
- Remove the bolts and the subframe brackets.
- Remove and discard the subframe bolts.
- Using the powertrain jack, lower the powertrain and subframe as an assembly. Use the General Equipment: Powertrain Jack
- Disconnect the right hand HO2S and right hand catalyst monitor sensor electrical connectors.

- Loosen.
- Remove.
-
- Remove and discard the RH catalytic converter nuts.
- Remove the RH catalytic converter.
- Remove and discard the RH catalytic converter gasket.
-
- Lift up the generator cable protective cover.
- Remove the nut and disconnect the generator cable.
- Disconnect the generator electrical connector.
- Detach the wiring harness retainers.
-
- Disconnect the transmission electrical connector.
- Detach the wiring harness retainers.
-
- Slide the coolant hose retainer off of the bracket.
- Loosen the clamp and slide the coolant hose off of the coolant outlet pipe.
- Detach the coolant hose retainer from the stud bolt.
- Disconnect the coolant hose quick connectors and remove the coolant hose assembly.

- Lift up the starter cable protective cover.
- Remove the nut and disconnect the starter cable.
- Disconnect the starter electrical connector.
- Detach the wiring harness retainers.
- Remove the nut and the manual control lever.
- Remove the nuts and the bracket.
- Remove the stud bolts and the starter.
- Remove the nut and the ground cable.
- Remove the retainers and the access cover.

NOTE: Using the crankshaft pulley bolt, turn the engine clockwise.
Remove and discard the torque converter nuts.
- Detach the coolant tube retainers from the subframe.
- Detach the wiring harness retainers.
- Remove the bolts and the heat shield.
- Remove the bolts and the heat shield.
- Detach the PTU vent hose retainer.
- Remove the bolts and the bracket.
- Loosen the PTU bolts 19 mm (0. 75 in).
- Separate the PTU from the transmission 19 mm (0. 75 in).

- Install Special Service Tool: 303-1634 Lift Eyes (2)., 303-1246 Engine Spreader Bar.
- Support the engine using the floor crane and length of chain with connecting links. Use the General Equipment: Floor Crane
- Remove. Use the General Equipment: Adjustable Mounting Arm
- Remove the transmission bellhousing bolts.
- If equipped, remove the transmission bellhousing bolt.

- Remove the bellhousing bolts.
- Separate the engine from the transmission.
- Remove the engine from the transmission and subframe assembly. Use the General Equipment: Floor Crane
- Install Special Service Tool: 307-346 (T97T-7902-A) Retainer, Torque Converter.
