Valve Cover RH: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
NOTE: During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces, that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan, can cause engine failure.
    • Remove the nut.

    • Remove the bolt.

    • Remove the engine appearance cover.

    • If the engine appearance cover stud bolt is loosened or removed, it must be installed/tightened into the intake manifold.

      Torque: 62 lb. in (7 Nm)

  1. Remove the RH charge air cooler intake pipe. Refer to : Charge Air Cooler (CAC) Intake Pipe .
    1. Disconnect the PCV tube quick release couplings and remove the tube. Refer to : Quick Release Coupling .
    2. Disconnect the throttle body electrical connector.

  2. If equipped, remove the retainer and the wiring harness cover.

  3. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connectors and detach the wiring harness retainer.

  4. Detach the wiring harness retainer from the engine mount.

    • Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector and retainers.

    • Detach the vacuum tube and coolant tube retainers.

    • Disconnect the TC vacuum supply tube. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

    • Detach the vacuum tube retainers.

  5. Remove the RH coil-on-plugs. Refer to : Ignition Coil-On-Plug .
  6. Loosen the fasteners and remove the valve cover.

  7. Remove and discard the gasket.

    • Clean the valve cover gasket groove with soap and water or a suitable solvent.

  8. Inspect the spark plug seals. Remove any damaged seals using the special tools. Use Special Service Tool: 205-153 (T80T-4000-W) Handle., 303-1247 VCT Spark Plug Tube Seal Remover and Installer.

  9. NOTE: Do not Use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of old sealant.

    Clean the valve cover mating surface of the cylinder head and engine front cover. Refer to : RTV Sealing Surface Cleaning and Preparation . Use the General Equipment: Plastic Scraper
