Oil Pan: Removal

NOTE: During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces, that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan, can cause engine failure.

With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to : Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
Remove and discard the engine oil filter and drain the engine oil. Refer to : Engine Oil Draining and Filling .
Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to : Accessory Drive Belt .
Remove the oil level indicator.

Support the cooling module.

Remove the retainers and the front underbody shield.

Remove the RH ride height sensor. Refer to : Front Suspension Height Sensor .
NOTE: Use the internal or external hex-holding feature to prevent the ball and stud from turning while removing or installing the stabilizer bar link nuts. The link boot seal must not be allowed to twist while tightening the link nuts or damage to the boot seal will occur.

Remove the nut and position the RH sway bar link aside.

Remove the nuts and the subframe support bracket.

Position adjustable stands under the sides of the subframe. Use the General Equipment: Vehicle/Axle Stands

Remove the fasteners and the cooling module support panel.

1. Remove and discard the subframe bolts.
2. Remove the bolts and the subframe brackets.

Using the adjustable stands lower the LH side of the subframe 20 mm (0. 75 in) and lower the RH 65 mm (2. 5 in). Use the General Equipment: Vehicle/Axle Stands

Using a large flat-bladed screwdriver and the indicated pry pads, release the sealer and separate the oil pan from the bottom of the engine. Use the General Equipment: Flat-Bladed Screwdriver

NOTE: Suspension components and jackstand removed from graphic for clarity.
1. Rotate the front of the oil pan slightly toward the front of the vehicle.
2. Position the front of the oil pan to the RH side of the vehicle above the subframe.
3. Lower the rear of the oil pan to clear the exhaust and remove the oil pan.
4. NOTE: Do not reuse the oil pan.
  
  Discard the oil pan.

NOTE: Do not Use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges, which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove traces of sealant.

Make sure that the oil pan sealing surfaces of the cylinder block and engine front cover are free of foreign material. Refer to : RTV Sealing Surface Cleaning and Preparation . Use the General Equipment: Plastic Scraper
