Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S): Removal

All sensors 

    1. Remove the nut.

      Torque: 42 lb.in (4.8 Nm)

    2. Remove the bolt.

      Torque: 93 lb.in (10.5 Nm)

    3. If the engine appearance cover stud bolt is loosened or removed, it must be installed/tightened into the valve cover.

      Torque: 62 lb.in (7 Nm)

    Right hand Heated oxygen sensor 

  1. Remove the RH air cleaner outlet pipe. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe RH .
  2. Loosen the clamp and separate the RH CAC intake lower pipe.

    Torque: 44 lb.in (5 Nm)

  3. Loosen the clamp and separate the RH CAC intake upper pipe.

    Torque: 44 lb.in (5 Nm)

    • Disconnect the EVAP canister purge valve quick release coupling. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .
    • Detach the retainer and position the EVAP canister purge valve tube aside.

  4. Detach the coolant hose from the starter motor bracket.

    • Remove the bolt.

      Torque: 71 lb.in (8 Nm)

    • Disconnect the bypass valve electrical connector and remove the CAC intake pipe RH.

  5. Clean, inspect, and cover all open ports.
  6. Disconnect the HO2S wire retainer and electrical connector.

  7. Apply penetrating oil to sensor, using the special tool remove the HO2S.

    Use Special Service Tool: 303-476 (T94P-9472-A) Socket, Exhaust Gas Oxygen Sensor.

    Material: Motorcraft ® Penetrating and Lock Lubricant / XL-1

    Left hand Heated oxygen sensor 

  8. Remove the bolts and harness pushpins. Position the harness to access the HO2S sensor.
    1. Remove the harness retainer bolt.

      Torque: 71 lb.in (8 Nm)

    2. Remove the ground cable bolt.

      Torque: 159 lb.in (18 Nm)

  9. Disconnect the HO2S electrical connector.

  10. Apply penetrating oil to sensor, using the special tool remove the HO2S.

    Use Special Service Tool: 303-476 (T94P-9472-A) Socket, Exhaust Gas Oxygen Sensor.

    Material: Motorcraft ® Penetrating and Lock Lubricant / XL-1
