Oil Pump: Removal

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  2. Remove the timing cover. Refer to: Timing Cover .
  3. Install the engine support bar.

    Install Special Service Tool: 303-F072 Support Bar, Engine.

  4. Remove the trolley jack and wooden block.

  5. Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connector and detach the wire harness retainer.

  6. Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connector.

  7. Remove the nut and position aside the bracket.

  8. Remove the A/C compressor nut and the stud.

  9. Remove the bolts and position aside the A/C compressor.

    • Remove the oil drain bolt and drain the engine oil.

      Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment

    • Install the oil drain bolt.

      Torque: 21 lb.ft (28 Nm)

  10. Remove the engine bolt.

  12. Remove the bolts and the oil pan.

  13. Remove the bolts and the oil pump screen and pickup tube.

  14. Remove and discard the gasket.

    1. Position out the spring.
    2. Remove the bolts and the oil pump chain tensioner.

    • Remove the chain from the oil pump drive gear.
    • Remove the bolt and the oil pump drive gear.

  15. Remove the bolts and the oil pump.

  16. NOTE: Do not Use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges, which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove traces of sealant.

    Clean all mating surfaces. Refer to: RTV Sealing Surface Cleaning and Preparation .

    Use the General Equipment: Plastic Scraper

    Material: Motorcraft ® Metal Surface Prep Wipes / ZC-31-B

    Material: Motorcraft ® Metal Brake Parts Cleaner / PM-4-A, PM-4-B
