Oil Pan: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. NOTE: If the oil pan is not secured within 10 minutes of sealant application, the sealant must be removed and the sealing area cleaned with metal surface prep. Allow to dry until there is no sign of wetness, or 10 minutes, whichever is longer. Failure to follow this procedure can cause future oil leakage.

    Apply a 3 mm bead of silicone sealant.

    Material: Motorcraft ® Silicone Gasket and Sealant / TA-30 (WSE-M4G323-A4)

  2. NOTE: Only tighten the bolts finger tight at this stage.

    Install the oil pan and the bolts finger tight.

  3. NOTE: The engine front cover-to-oil pan bolts must be tightened first to align the front surface of the oil pan flush with the front surface of the engine block.

    Install the engine front cover-to-oil pan bolts.

    Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

  4. Tighten the oil pan bolts in sequence displayed below.

    Torque: 177 lb.in (20 Nm)

  5. Alternate tightening the LH bellhousing-to-engine and RH engine-to-bellhousing bolts to slide the transaxle and engine together.

  6. Tighten the transmission-to-engine bolts.

    Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

  7. Install the transmission bolts.

    Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

  8. Install the engine bolt.

    Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

    1. Position the roll restrictor.
    2. Install the roll restrictor-to-subframe bolt.

      Torque: 111 lb.ft (150 Nm)

    3. Install the roll restrictor-to-tranmission bolt.

      Torque: 85 lb.ft (115 Nm)

  9. Install the shield and the retainers.

  10. Position the A/C compressor and install the bolts.

    Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

  11. Install the A/C compressor stud and the nut.

    Torque:

    1: 80 lb.in (9 Nm)

    2: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

  12. Position the bracket and install the nut.

    Torque: 133 lb.in (15 Nm)

  13. Connect the A/C compressor electrical connector.

  14. Attach the wire harness retainer and connect the A/C compressor electrical connector.

  15. Install the A/C compressor belt. Refer to: Air Conditioning (A/C) Compressor Belt .
  16. Install the engine undershield and the retainers.

  17. Tighten the transmission-to-engine stud bolt and the bolts.

    Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

  18. Attach the wire harness retainers.

  19. Tighten the transmission-to-engine bolts.

    Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

  20. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield and the bolts.

    Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

  21. Attach the wire harness retainers, connect the CMS and HO2S electrical connectors.

  22. Install the air cleaner. Refer to: Air Cleaner .
  23. Install the oil level indicator.

  24. Fill the engine with clean engine oil.

    Material: Motorcraft ® SAE 5W-20 Synthetic Blend Motor Oil / XO-5W20-QSP (WSS-M2C945-A)
