Disassembly And Assembly Of Subassemblies: Piston: Assembly

  1. NOTE: Align the piston-to-connecting rod orientation marks made during disassembly.
    NOTE: The arrow on the top piston of the piston points towards the front of the engine.

    Align the piston-to-connecting rod orientation marks, and position the connecting rod in the piston.

  2. Lubricate with clean engine oil and install the piston pin.

    Material: Motorcraft ® SAE 5W-20 Synthetic Blend Motor Oil / XO-5W20-QSP (WSS-M2C945-A)

  3. Install the piston pin retainers.

  4. Lubricate with clean engine oil and install the piston rings.

    Material: Motorcraft ® SAE 5W-20 Synthetic Blend Motor Oil / XO-5W20-QSP (WSS-M2C945-A)

  5. NOTE: The piston compression upper and lower rings should be installed with the paint mark on the outside diameter circumference of the ring to be positioned on the right side of the ring gap. The lower compression ring needs to be installed with the undercut side downward.
    NOTE: The upper and lower compression ring gaps are not controlled for installation.

    1. Upper oil control segment ring gap location.
    2. Oil control spacer gap location.
    3. Lower oil control segment ring gap location.
