Pinpoint Test AO : A Low Washer Fluid Level Display Is Never Or Always On

  1. AO1 CHECK THE MESSAGE CENTER OPERATION

    • Close all doors.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Open the driver front door and observe the message center operation.

    Does the message center display the driver door ajar message? 

    Yes  GO to  AO2
    No  GO to Pinpoint Test A 
  2. AO2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCS FROM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to DTC Chart: IPC .
    No  GO to  AO3
  3. AO3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCS FROM THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the BCM self-test.

    Are any DTCs recorded? 

    Yes  For DTC B1177:13, GO to  AO4 For all other DTCs, REFER to: Body Control Module (BCM) .
    No  GO to  AO7
  4. AO4 CHECK THE LOW WASHER FLUID INDICATOR OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect: Washer Fluid Level Sensor.

    • Connect a fused jumper wire:
      Lead 1 Measurement / Action Lead 2

      Ground

    • Ignition ON.

    • Wait one minute.

    • Observe the message center low washer fluid display.

    Does the low washer fluid message turn off? 

    Yes  REMOVE the jumper wire. GO to  AO5
    No  REMOVE the jumper wire. GO to  AO6
  5. AO5 CHECK THE WASHER FLUID LEVEL SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new washer fluid level sensor or reservoir as necessary.
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  6. AO6 CHECK THE WASHER FLUID LEVEL INPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect: Washer Fluid Level Sensor.

    • Disconnect: BCM C2280A.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  AO9
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  7. AO7 CHECK THE WASHER FLUID SWITCH

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Wait one minute.

    • Observe the message center low washer fluid display.

    Does the message center turn off the low washer fluid message? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new washer fluid level sensor or reservoir as necessary. REFER to: Windshield Washer Reservoir .
    No  GO to  AO8
  8. AO8 CHECK THE WASHER FLUID INPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect: BCM C2280A.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  AO9
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  9. AO9 CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect and inspect all BCM and all related in-line connectors.

    • Repair:

      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

    • Reconnect the BCM and all related in-line connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.

    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK On-Line Automotive Service Information System (OASIS) for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, Refer to BCM GUIDED ROUTINE TESTING
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
