Catalytic Converter: Removal

Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
- Remove the engine appearance cover.

- Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe mounting retainer.
Torque
: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)
- Loosen the air cleaner outlet pipe clamps and remove the air cleaner outlet pipe.
Torque
: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)
- Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe mounting retainer.
- Disconnect and remove the tube.
- Detach the wiring harness retainer, then disconnect the HO2S and catalyst monitor sensor electrical connectors.
- Remove the bolts and the subframe support bracket.
Torque
: 35 lb.ft (47 Nm)

NOTE: Make sure that the exhaust flexible pipe is not forcibly bent or twisted.
Support the exhaust flexible pipe with a support wrap or suitable splint. Use the General Equipment: Cable Ties
- Tighten the nuts in this sequence.
- Remove the catalytic converter mounting bracket nuts.
Torque
:1: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm) 2: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
- Remove the catalytic converter mounting bracket nuts.

- Tighten the nuts in this sequence. Remove and discard the nuts and gasket.
Torque
: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)
- Remove the bolts.
Torque
: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
- Tighten the nuts in this sequence. Remove and discard the nuts and gasket.
- Remove the catalytic converter brackets.

NOTE: During installation, tighten the nut finger tight at this stage.
- Remove and discard the clamp.
Torque
: 177 lb.in (20 Nm)
- Remove the catalytic convertor.
- Remove and discard the clamp.
