Catalytic Converter: Removal

NOTE:
Clean all exhaust connections before reassembly.
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
- Remove the engine appearance cover.

NOTE: Whenever the turbocharger air intake system components are removed, always cover the open ports to protect them from debris. It is important that no foreign material enter the system. The turbocharger compressor vanes are susceptible to damage from even small particles. All of the components should be inspected and cleaned, if needed, prior to installation or reassembly.
Remove the air cleaner outlet tube.
Torque
: 44 lb.in (5 Nm)
- Disconnect the HO2S and catalyst monitor sensor electrical connectors. Detach the wiring retainers.
- Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to: Accessory Drive Belt .
- Disconnect the electrical connectors and wiring clip. Remove the bolts and position aside the A/C compressor.
Torque
: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
- Remove the bolts and the heat shields.
Torque
: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)

NOTE: Make sure that the exhaust flexible pipe is not forcibly bent or twisted.
Support the exhaust flexible pipe. Use the General Equipment: Cable Ties
- Remove and discard the nuts and gasket.
Torque
: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

- Remove the nuts.
- Position aside the bracket.
- Remove the bolt.
- Remove the bolts to engine. Then remove and discard the nuts and gasket.
- Remove the catalytic converter.
