Special Tool(s) / General Equipment

303-1554 Engine Support Bar
Transmission Jack
Retaining Strap
Wooden Block
  1. Remove the cooling fan and shroud. Refer to: Cooling Fan Motor and Shroud .
  2. Remove the battery tray. Refer to: Battery Tray .
  3. Remove the wiring retainers and the nuts and remove the battery tray support bracket.

  4. Disconnect the gearshift cables.

  5. Remove the bell housing bolts.

  6. Disconnect the electrical connector, wiring retainer and remove the bolt and the ground strap.

  7. If equipped, remove the engine appearance cover.

  8. Position aside the wiring harness, remove the retainer nuts and brackets

  9. Remove the bolts and position aside the starter.

  10. Disconnect and position aside the transmission breather tube.

  11. If equipped. Disconnect the electrical connector.

  12. Remove the PTU. Refer to: Power Transfer Unit .
  13. Remove the retaining nuts and the catalytic converter bracket.

  14. Position aside the PTU cooling hoses.

  15. Remove the LHF wheel and tire. Refer to: Wheel and Tire .
  16. If equipped. Remove the LHF inner fender splash shield and retainers.

  17. Remove the LHF inner splash shield and brake air duct cooler tube.

  18. Remove the ECM cover and retainers.

  19. Disconnect the ECM and position the harness aside.

  20. Disconnect the electrical connector.

  21. Remove the LH front halfshaft. Refer to: Front Halfshaft LH .
  22. Remove the lower control arm shield and push pin.

  25. NOTE: Use caution when lowering the vehicle after the special tool is installed. If the vehicle is lowered onto the special tool, damage to the special tool or the vehicle can occur.

    Install the special tool and support the engine. Install Special Service Tool: 303-1554 Engine Support Bar.

  28. Adjust the special tool.

  29. Remove the bolt and the transmission support insulator.

  31. NOTE: Make sure that all openings are sealed.

    Disconnect the clutch hydraulic tube.

  32. Install the following items:

    • Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack
    • Use the General Equipment: Wooden Block
    • Use the General Equipment: Retaining Strap

  33. Lower the powertrain. Use Special Service Tool: 303-1554 Engine Support Bar.

  34. Position the powertrain forward. Use Special Service Tool: 303-1554 Engine Support Bar.

  35. Remove the bell housing bolt.

    Remove the transmission.
