  1. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  2. Remove the following items:

  3. Remove the wiring retainers and the nuts and remove the battery tray support bracket.

  4. Disconnect the reverse switch electrical connector.

  5. Disconnect the gearshift cables.

  6. NOTE: Make sure that all openings are sealed.

    Disconnect the clutch hydraulic tube.

  7. Remove the bellhousing bolts.

  8. Remove the screws and the engine undershield.

    1. Drain the transmission fluid.
    2. Install the drain plug.

      Torque

      : 26 lb.ft (35 Nm)

  9. Remove the ground cable and disconnect the wiring retainer.

  10. Remove the following items:

  11. NOTE: Do not use a prying device or separator fork between the ball joint and the wheel knuckle. Damage to the ball joint or ball joint seal may result. Only use the pry bar by inserting it into the lower arm body opening.
    NOTE: Use care when releasing the lower arm and wheel knuckle into the resting position or damage to the ball joint seal may occur.

    Remove and discard the lower control arm bolt and nut and separate the lower control arm from the steering knuckle.

  12. Remove the bolt and remove the brake hose from the steering knuckle.

  13. If equipped, remove the ride height sensor bolt.

  14. NOTE: Do not bend the inner joint more than 18° and the outer joint more than 45°. Damage to the shaft will occur.

    Remove the intermediate shaft bearing strap nuts, remove the bearing strap and position aside the intermediate shaft.

  15. Remove the nuts and position aside the wiring retainer. Remove the bolts and position aside the starter.

  16. NOTE: Do not forcibly bend or twist the exhaust flexible pipe. Failure to follow these instructions may cause damage to the flexible pipe.

    Support the exhaust flexpipe.

  17. NOTE: Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign material.

    Remove and discard the muffler and tailpipe nuts and gasket. Separate the muffler and tailpipe assembly from the catalytic converter.

  18. Remove the bolts and the roll restrictor and roll restrictor bracket. Discard the roll restrictor-to-subframe bolt.

  19. Remove the exhaust hanger bolts.

  20. Remove the bolts and the catalytic converter support bracket.

    Engine Undershield

  21. NOTE: Use caution when lowering the vehicle after the special tool is installed. If the vehicle is lowered onto the special tool, damage to the special tool or the vehicle can occur.

    Install the special tool and support the engine. Use Special Service Tool: 303-1554 Engine Support Bar.

  22. Remove the bolt and the transmission support insulator.

  24. Lower the engine and transmission assembly.
  25. Install the following items:

    • Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack
    • Use the General Equipment: Wooden Block
    • Use the General Equipment: Retaining Strap

  26. Remove the bellhousing bolts.
