Cooler Bypass Valve: Removal

- With the vehicle in N, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
- Remove the air cleaner. Refer to: Air Cleaner .
- Remove the battery tray. Refer to: Battery Tray .
- Remove the nuts and the battery tray support bracket.
- Disconnect the selector lever cable end from the manual control lever, remove the bracket bolts and position aside the selector lever cable and bracket.
- Remove the transmission-to-cooler bypass valve tube bolts.

NOTE: Be prepared to collect escaping fluid.
Completely loosen the fittings and remove the transmission-to-cooler bypass valve tubes.
- Inspect the transmission case to be sure that the transmission mounted transmission fluid cooler inlet tube seals and backing rings were removed with the transmission mounted transmission fluid cooler tubes and are not stuck in the transmission case. If the transmission mounted transmission fluid cooler tube seals or backing rings is stuck in the transmission case, remove the seals and backing rings.
- Remove the retainers and the splash shield.

NOTE: Be prepared to collect escaping fluid.
Completely loosen the cooler bypass valve-to-transmission fluid cooler fittings.
- Remove the nut and the cooler bypass valve.
