Oil Pump: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  2. Remove the cowl panel grille. Refer to: Cowl Panel Grille .
  3. Install Special Service Tool: 303-F072 Support Bar, Engine.

  4. Remove the engine front cover. Refer to: Engine Front Cover  .
    1. Remove the CAC pipe nuts.
    2. Loosen the clamps and remove the CAC pipe.

  5. Detach the wiring harness retainers from oil pan stud bolts.

    • Remove the oil pan drain bolt and drain the engine oil. Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment

    • Install the oil pan drain bolt.

      Torque

      : 20 lb.ft (27 Nm)

  6. Remove and discard the engine oil filter. Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment

  7. NOTE: Make sure that no strain is placed on the refrigerant lines.

    • Disconnect the A/C compressor wiring harness electrical connector and retainer.

    • Remove the bolts and position and support the A/C compressor aside.

  8. Remove the bellhousing-to-oil pan bolts.

  9. Remove the oil pan-to-bellhousing stud bolt.

  10. Remove the bolts, stud bolts and the oil pan.

  11. Remove the bolts and the oil screen and pickup tube.

  12. Remove the oil screen and pickup tube O-ring seal and discard.

  13. WARNING: Take extra care when handling the compressed spring.

    1. Release the tension on the tensioner spring.
    2. Remove the shoulder bolts, tensioner and position the chain aside.

  14. Remove the bolt and oil pump sprocket.

  17. NOTE: Do not use wire brushes, power abrasive discs or 3M™ Roloc® Bristle Disk (2-in white, part number 07528) to clean the sealing surfaces of the engine block. These tools cause scratches and gouges that make leak paths. They also cause contamination that causes premature engine failure. Remove all traces of the gasket.

    • Make sure that the mating faces of the oil pan are clean and free of foreign material. Refer to: RTV Sealing Surface Cleaning and Preparation .

      : Motorcraft® Silicone Gasket Remover / ZC-30-A

      Material

      : Motorcraft® Metal Brake Parts Cleaner / PM-4-A, PM-4-B

      Material

      : Motorcraft® Metal Surface Prep Wipes / ZC-31-B

    • Thoroughly wash the oil pan to remove any foreign material, including any abrasive particles created during the cleaning process.
