Oil Pan: Installation

NOTE: If the oil pan is not secured within 10 minutes of sealant application, the sealant must be removed and the sealing area cleaned with metal surface prep. Allow to dry until there is no sign of wetness, or 10 minutes, whichever is longer. Failure to follow this procedure can cause future oil leakage.
Apply a 3 mm bead of silicone sealant.

: Motorcraft® Silicone Gasket and Sealant / TA-30 (WSE-M4G323-A4)
- Install the oil pan and the bolts finger-tight.

NOTE: The engine front cover-to-oil pan fasteners must be tightened first to align the front surface of the oil pan flush with the front surface of the engine block.
Install the engine front cover-to-oil pan bolts.
Torque
: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)
- Tighten the bolts in sequence shown.
Torque
: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
- Alternate tightening the LH bellhousing-to-engine and RH engine-to-bellhousing lower bolts to draw the transmission and engine together.
- Install the oil pan-to-bellhousing bolt.
Torque
: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)
- Install the bellhousing-to-oil pan bolts.
Torque
: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)
- Tighten the transmission-to-engine bolts.
Torque
: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)
- Tighten the bellhousing-to-engine bolts.
Torque
: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

- Remove the support and position the A/C compressor and install the bolts.
Torque
: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
- Connect the A/C compressor wiring harness electrical connector and retainer.
- Remove the support and position the A/C compressor and install the bolts.
- Tighten the transmission-to-engine bolts.
Torque
: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)
- Remove the support and position the starter motor and install the stud bolts.
Torque
: 26 lb.ft (35 Nm)

- Install the bracket and the nuts.
Torque
: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)
- Connect the wiring harness electrical connector.
- Attach the wiring harness retainers.
- Install the bracket and the nuts.
- Lubricate the oil filter seal with clean engine oil and install.
Torque
:Stage 1: 71 lb.in (8 Nm) Stage 2: 180°
- Attach the wiring harness retainers to the oil pan stud bolts.
- Install the following items:
- Install the power transfer unit. Refer to: Power Transfer Unit .
- Install the A/C compressor belt. Refer to: Air Conditioning (A/C) Compressor Belt .
- Install the oil level indicator.
- Fill the engine with clean engine oil. Refer to: Specifications .

NOTE: Lubricating the grommets with silicone grease will aid in the installation of the engine appearance cover, and any future removal and installation of the cover.
- Lubricate each grommet with silicone grease.
Material
: Motorcraft® Silicone Brake Caliper Grease and Dielectric Compound / XG-3-A (ESE-M1C171-A)
- Position the engine appearance cover onto engine with the grommets aligned with the studs.
- Press down on the engine appearance cover at each grommet location to attach the grommets onto the studs.
- Lubricate each grommet with silicone grease.
