Section 2 (Engine - 2.0L ECOBOOST (184KW/250PS) - Mi4): Removal: Engine

WARNING: Before beginning any service procedure in this article, refer to Safety Warnings in GENERAL INFORMATION (EXCEPT ELECTRIC) . Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.
Refer to: Health and Safety Precautions .
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
- Evacuate the A/C system. Refer to: Air Conditioning (A/C) System Recovery, Evacuation and Charging - Vehicles With: R134A Refrigerant .
- Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .

- Remove the retainers and the underbody shield.
- Remove the retainers and the underbody shield reinforcement.
- Drain the cooling system. Refer to: Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding .
- Remove the following items:
- Refer to: Degas Bottle .
- Refer to: Air Cleaner .
- Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe .
- Refer to: Cooling Module .
- Remove the engine compartment fuse box cover.
- Release the retainers, disconnect the main wiring harness from the fuse box and the battery feed cable.
- Remove the battery tray. Refer to: Battery Tray .
- Detach the wiring harness retainer.

- Remove the bolts.
- Disconnect the electrical connector and the wiring harness retainers.
- Remove the PCM. Refer to: Powertrain Control Module (PCM) .
- Detach the retainers and position the PCM wiring harness assembly aside.
- Disconnect the Gearshift cable end and gear lever selector cable end from selector lever assembly.
- Disconnect the slave cylinder hydraulic tube.
- Position the sound symposer hose aside.

- Disconnect the fuel tube and EVAP canister purge valve quick release couplings. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling . Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
- Detach the coolant hose retainers and disconnect the coolant hoses.
- Disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose quick connect coupling.
- Remove the nut and position the A/C line aside.
- Detach the wiring harness retainer and disconnect the engine harness electrical connectors.
- Remove the bolts and position the TC outlet tube aside.
- Loosen the clamp and remove the TC outlet tube.
- Remove the following items:
- Refer to: Front Halfshaft LH .
- Refer to: Front Halfshaft RH .
- Remove and discard the nuts. Position aside the muffler inlet pipe.
- Remove and discard the muffler inlet gasket.
- Remove the catalytic converter support bracket nuts.

- Remove the grommet.
- Remove the catalytic converter support bracket.
- If equipped. Remove the catalytic converter insulator bracket.
- Remove and discard the catalytic converter clamp.
- Remove the exhaust isolator bracket bolts.
- Relocate and support the catalytic converter.
- Remove and discard the exhaust gasket.
- Remove the nuts and the roll restrictor bracket.
- Remove the bolts and position aside the roll restrictor.
- Remove and discard the engine oil filter.
- Remove the drain plug, drain engine oil and install drain plug.
Torque
: 20 lb.ft (27 Nm)
- Using the special tool, position the engine on the table stand. Install Special Service Tool: 300-OTC1585AE Powertrain Lift. Use the General Equipment: Adjustable Mounting Arm. Use the General Equipment: Wooden Block
- Detach the wiring harness retainer. Remove the nuts and the transmission support insulator bracket.
- Remove the bolt and the transmission support insulator.
- Remove the bolts, nuts and the engine mount.
- Using the special tool, raise the vehicle engine. Use Special Service Tool: 300-OTC1585AE Powertrain Lift. Use the General Equipment: Adjustable Mounting Arm. Use the General Equipment: Wooden Block

- Detach the wiring harness retainers.
- Disconnect the coolant hose retainers.
- Remove the nuts and the starter motor bracket.
- Remove the studs and position aside the starter motor assembly.
- Remove the nuts and the starter motor.
- Remove the starter motor insulator.
- Disconnect the EVAP tube and position aside. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling
.
- Using the special tools, install the Floor Crane. Install Special Service Tool: 300-OTC1819E 2, 200# Floor Crane, Fold Away.
- Using the special tools, remove the engine from the table stand. Remove Special Service Tool: 300-OTC1585AE Powertrain Lift. Use the General Equipment: Adjustable Mounting Arm. Use the General Equipment: Wooden Block
- Remove the engine to transmission bolts and the stud.
- Remove the transmission bolt and detach the wiring harness retainer.
- Remove the transmission-to-engine bolts.
- Remove the bolts and the engine from the transmission.
