  1. WARNING: Before beginning any service procedure in this article, refer to Safety Warnings in GENERAL INFORMATION (EXCEPT ELECTRIC) . Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.

    Refer to: Health and Safety Precautions .

  2. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  3. Evacuate the A/C system. Refer to: Air Conditioning (A/C) System Recovery, Evacuation and Charging - Vehicles With: R134A Refrigerant .
  4. Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
    1. Remove the retainers and the underbody shield.
    2. Remove the retainers and the underbody shield reinforcement.

  5. Drain the cooling system. Refer to: Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding .
  6. Remove the following items:

    1. Refer to: Degas Bottle .
    2. Refer to: Air Cleaner .
    3. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe .
    4. Refer to: Cooling Module .

  7. Remove the engine compartment fuse box cover.

  8. Release the retainers, disconnect the main wiring harness from the fuse box and the battery feed cable.

  9. Remove the battery tray. Refer to: Battery Tray .
  10. Detach the wiring harness retainer.

    • Remove the bolts.

    • Disconnect the electrical connector and the wiring harness retainers.

  11. Remove the PCM. Refer to: Powertrain Control Module (PCM) .
  12. Detach the retainers and position the PCM wiring harness assembly aside.

  13. Disconnect the Gearshift cable end and gear lever selector cable end from selector lever assembly.

  14. Disconnect the slave cylinder hydraulic tube.

  15. Position the sound symposer hose aside.

    • Disconnect the fuel tube and EVAP canister purge valve quick release couplings. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling . Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

    • Detach the coolant hose retainers and disconnect the coolant hoses.

    • Disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose quick connect coupling.

  16. Remove the nut and position the A/C line aside.

  17. Detach the wiring harness retainer and disconnect the engine harness electrical connectors.

  18. Remove the bolts and position the TC outlet tube aside.

  19. Loosen the clamp and remove the TC outlet tube.

  20. Remove the following items:

    1. Refer to: Front Halfshaft LH .
    2. Refer to: Front Halfshaft RH .

  21. Remove and discard the nuts. Position aside the muffler inlet pipe.

  23. Remove the catalytic converter support bracket nuts.

    1. Remove the grommet.
    2. Remove the catalytic converter support bracket.
    3. If equipped. Remove the catalytic converter insulator bracket.

  24. Remove and discard the catalytic converter clamp.

  31. Remove the drain plug, drain engine oil and install drain plug.

    Torque

    : 20 lb.ft (27 Nm)

  32. Using the special tool, position the engine on the table stand. Install Special Service Tool: 300-OTC1585AE Powertrain Lift. Use the General Equipment: Adjustable Mounting Arm. Use the General Equipment: Wooden Block

  33. Detach the wiring harness retainer. Remove the nuts and the transmission support insulator bracket.

    1. Detach the wiring harness retainers.
    2. Disconnect the coolant hose retainers.
    3. Remove the nuts and the starter motor bracket.
