Removal And Installation: Turbocharger: Removal

NOTE: Whenever the turbocharger air intake system components are removed, always cover the open ports to protect them from debris. It is important that no foreign material enter the system. The turbocharger compressor vanes are susceptible to damage from even small particles. All of the components should be inspected and cleaned, if needed, prior to installation or reassembly.

NOTE: Special attention needs to be given to the sealing ports for the oil feed, the oil drain, and the coolant lines, on turbocharged engines. The sealing ports must be totally clean and free from O-ring residue, have no damage to the sealing surface and the lines to ensure that there are no leaks or repeat repairs.

Remove the engine front cover.
Refer to: Engine Front Cover .
Position the turbocharger coolant return tube heat shield up out of the way, to access the turbocharger coolant return tube hose clamp.

1. Clamp off the turbocharger coolant tubes. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp(s)
2. Release the hose clamps and disconnect the turbocharger coolant tubes. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

Remove the turbocharger oil return tube retainers.

Remove and discard the turbocharger oil return tube gasket.

Release the turbocharger bypass valve control hose clamp and disconnect the hose. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

Release the turbocharger wastegate control hose clamp and disconnect the hose. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

Remove and discard the turbocharger oil supply tube bolt and the turbocharger oil supply tube sealing washers.

Remove and discard the turbocharger nuts, then the remove the turbocharger.

Remove the turbocharger heat shield bolt, then remove and discard the turbocharger heat shield and gasket assembly.

Remove the turbocharger oil supply tube bolts, then remove and discard the turbocharger oil supply tube.

1. Install the special service tool and the mounting bolts loosely. Use Special Service Tool: 303-1605 Alignment Tool, Camshaft.
2. Tighten the camshaft alignment tool camshaft bolts until each camshaft is held securely.
3. Tighten the camshaft alignment tool mounting bolts. Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

WARNING: Take extra care when handling the compressed spring.
1. Rotate the timing belt tensioner clockwise.
2. Install a suitable locking pin.
