Crankshaft Rear Seal: Removal

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  2. Remove the following items:

    1. Refer to: Oil Pan .
    2. Refer to: Cowl Panel Grille .

    • Loosen the air cleaner outlet pipe clamps, remove the nuts. Disconnect the vacuum tube from air outlet pipe. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

    • Disconnect the PCV coupling.

    • Disconnect the MAP sensor electrical connector and remove the air cleaner outlet pipe assembly.

  3. Install Special Service Tool: 303-F072 Support Bar, Engine.

  4. NOTE: The engine will be supported by the 303-F072 engine support bar during the transmission and flywheel removal. It is not necessary to install the 303-1554 Engine Support Bar as directed in the transmission removal procedure.

    Remove the flywheel or flexplate. Refer to: Flywheel  . Refer to: Flexplate  .

    • Remove the bolts and the crankshaft rear seal.

    • Discard the crankshaft rear seal.
