Pinpoint Test L : The Rear Window Washer Is Inoperative Or Always On

  1. L1 CHECK THE REAR WIPER WASH SWITCH (R_WIPE_WASH_SW) PID

    • Ignition ON.
    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, view the SCCM PIDs.
    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, monitor the SCCM R_WIPE_WASH_SW PID.

    Does the PID indicate switch is activated? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new multifunction switch. REFER to Steering Column Switches . If the concern is still present, INSTALL a new SCCM. REFER to Steering Column Switches .
    No  GO to  L2.

  2. L2 CHECK THE WASHER PUMP RELAY

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Rear Washer Relay.
    • Substitute a known good relay.
    • Ignition ON.

    Does the washer pump continue to operate? 

    Yes  REMOVE the known good relay. GO to  L3.
    No  REMOVE the known good relay. INSTALL a new rear washer relay.

  3. L3 CHECK THE REAR WASHER RELAY CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor C1656 .
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      Rear washer relay, cavity 2

      		 Ground

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new windshield wiper motor. REFER to Wiper Motor - Windshield .
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
