Brake Master Cylinder: Removal

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
  1. With the engine off, press the brake pedal 5 times to deplete the brake booster vacuum.

  2. Remove the battery. Refer to: Battery .
  3. Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe. For 2.3L, Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe . For 3.5L GTDI, Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe . For 3.5L/3.7L TiVCT, Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe .
  4. Disconnect the brake fluid level sensor and detach the wiring retainer.

  5. NOTE: If the brake fluid is spilled on the paintwork, the affected area must be immediately washed down with cold water.
    NOTE: Make sure all openings are sealed.

    Disconnect the brake tubes.

    Torque: 22 lb.ft (30 Nm)

  6. NOTE: Make sure the master cylinder-to-brake booster seal is removed with the master cylinder.

    Remove the nuts and the brake master cylinder.

    Torque: 177 lb.in (20 Nm)
