Dimmable Illumination
On some vehicles equipped with an ambient light sensor, the message center provides a setup menu to select manual or automatic illumination levels based on ambient light levels. For additional information, refer to the Owner's Literature.
Networked Dimmable Illumination
The dimming level of networked modules is determined by the IPC. Based on the ambient light level and dimmer switch position messages from the BCM, the IPC calculates the correct dimming level and sends the illumination dimming level message to the BCM and the HVAC module on the MS-CAN and the APIM, FCIM and FCDIM on the Infotaiment Controller Area Network (I-CAN). The BCM also forwards the illumination dimming message from the IPC to the DDM and PDM.
The receiving modules use the illumination dimming level message to determine the backlighting intensity of internal or external non-networked illumination sources. If a module does not receive the illumination dimming level message or the data received is deemed invalid, the module sets a DTC in continuous memory and defaults to full night time intensity.
Non-Networked Dimmable Illumination
Based on the illumination dimming level message received from the IPC, the BCM sends pulse-width modulated voltage to the non-networked dimmable components.
