Pinpoint Test AP : The Shift To Park Display Is Never Or Always On

  1. AP1 CHECK THE MESSAGE CENTER OPERATION

    • Ignition ON.

    • Close all doors and the liftgate.

    • Clear all message center warnings by pressing the OK button for each warning present.

    • NOTE: If multiple warnings are present, the message center cycles through each of the warning indicators. Allow the message center to cycle through each display while determining whether the door ajar message center warning is active.

      Monitor the door ajar message center warning.

    • Open the driver door.

    • Clear the message center popup warning.

    • Monitor the door ajar message center warning.

    Does the driver door ajar message center warning turn off with the driver door closed and turn on with the driver door open? 

    Yes  GO to  AP2
    No  Refer to IPC HARDWARE TESTING .
  2. AP2 CHECK THE PRNDL PARK (P) OPERATION

    • Apply the parking brake.

    • Move the floor shifter from PARK (P) to REVERSE while observing the PRNDL operation. Shift the vehicle in and out of PARK (P) while monitoring the PRNDL P indication.

    Does the PRNDL display P with the shifter in PARK (P) and turn off when the shifter is out of PARK (P)? 

    Yes  GO to  AP3
    No  GO to Pinpoint Test AB 
  3. AP3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.

    Are any DTC recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to DTC Chart: IPC .
    No  GO to  AP4
  4. AP4 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the BCM self-test.

    Are any BCM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to: Body Control Module (BCM) .
    No  Refer to BCM HARDWARE TESTING . TEST the system for normal operation. If the shift to park display remains on, Refer to IPC HARDWARE TESTING .
