Timing Chain: Removal

Remove the engine front cover. Refer to: Engine Front Cover .
- 2.NOTE: When the tool is properly installed, the locating pin will be approximately at the 10 o'clock position.
Using the special tool, set the crankshaft and camshaft positions. Install Special Service Tool: 303-1587 Timing Tool, Crankshaft.

Check the valve timing by inserting the end of 2 drill bits through the sprocket holes into the timing pin holes in the cylinder head.Use the General Equipment: 6 mm Drill Bit

Using the special tool, release and hold the ratchet mechanism.Use Special Service Tool: 100-010 Remover, O-Ring Seal.

Compress the tensioner by pushing the timing chain tensioner arm toward the tensioner.

Insert the punch into the hole to retain the tensioner.Use the General Equipment: 2 mm Punch

Mark the timing chain links that align with the timing marks on the LH and RH camshaft sprockets as shown in illustration.- Remove the bolts, camshaft sprockets and the timing chain.
