Wheel Knuckle: Removal
NOTE:
Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
- Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
- Remove the wheel and tire. Refer to: Wheel and Tire .
- Remove and discard the wheel hub nut.

NOTE: Do not allow the halfshaft to move outboard. Overextension of the tripod CV joint may result in separation of internal parts, causing failure of the halfshaft.
Using the special tool, press the halfshaft from the wheel bearing and hub. Support the halfshaft in a level position. Use Special Service Tool: 205-D070 (D93P-1175-B) Remover, Front Wheel Hub.

NOTE: Use care when installing the tie rod separator or damage to the outer tie-rod end boot may occur.NOTE: Do not use a hammer to separate the outer tie-rod end from the wheel knuckle or damage to the wheel knuckle may result.
Remove and discard the tie rod end nut and disconnect the tie rod end from the wheel knuckle. Use the General Equipment: Tie Rod End Remover
Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

NOTE: Make sure that a new bolt is installed.
Remove and discard the wheel knuckle bolt. Disconnect the lower arm and position aside the ball joint seal.
Torque: 61 lb.ft (83 Nm)
- Remove the bolt and position aside wheel speed sensor.
Torque: 42 lb.in (4.8 Nm)
- Remove the brake disc shield. Refer to: Brake Disc Shield .
- Remove and discard the lower strut-to-wheel knuckle nut and bolt.
Torque:
Stage 1: 59 lb.ft (80 Nm)
Stage 2: 180 °

NOTE: Do not bend the inner joint more than 18 degrees and the outer joint more than 45 degrees. Damage to the halfshaft will occur.
Position aside the halfshaft and remove the wheel knuckle.

NOTE: This step is not necessary when installing a new component.
If necessary, remove the wheel hub and bearing. Refer to: Front Wheel Bearing .
