Diagnostics in this article assume a certain skill level and knowledge of Ford-specific diagnostic practices. REFER to: Diagnostic Methods .

NOTE: Clean the entire mirror assembly and glass to assist in verification of the customer concern and/or impact damage. Do not clean any mirror glass or housing with an ice scraper, razor blade, abrasive pad, harsh chemicals or petroleum based cleaning products, as these may damage the mirror glass and/or housing.

Condition	Possible Sources	Actions
Mirrors fold inward due to wind pressure	Mirror structural bracket is damaged	INSPECT the mirror for structural damage. If necessary, INSTALL a new mirror.
Both exterior mirrors are inoperative	Refer to the Pinpoint Test	GO to Pinpoint Test A
The LH exterior mirror is inoperative or does not operate in one or more directions	Refer to the Pinpoint Test	GO to Pinpoint Test B
The RH exterior mirror is inoperative or does not operate in one or more directions	Refer to the Pinpoint Test	GO to Pinpoint Test C
One or both heated exterior mirrors is inoperative	Refer to the Pinpoint Test	GO to Pinpoint Test D
The LH and RH heated exterior mirrors do not defrost at the same rate	Normal operation	No action required, the system is operating correctly at this time. Variations in mirror glass thickness and environmental conditions can cause the mirrors to defrost at different rates.
One or both power folding exterior mirrors is inoperative	Refer to the Pinpoint Test	WAIT 3 minutes with the engine running or 10 minutes with the engine not running for the power folding mirror lockout feature to reset. TEST the system for normal operation. If the power folding mirrors operate correctly after waiting, the system is functioning correctly at this time. The power folding mirror lockout feature was active If the power folding mirrors do not operate correctly after waiting, GO to Pinpoint Test E
