Driver Airbag: Removal

WARNING: The following procedure prescribes critical repair steps required for correct restraint system operation during a crash. Follow all notes and steps carefully. Failure to follow step instructions may result in incorrect operation of the restraint system and increases the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

Depower the SRS. Refer to: Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering .
Position the steering column all the way down and extend it all the way out.

1. Rotate the steering wheel 90 degrees to the right.
2. Release the RH retainer. Use the General Equipment: Flat Headed Screw Driver
3. Rotate the steering wheel 180 degrees to the left.
4. Release the LH retainer. Use the General Equipment: Flat Headed Screw Driver

1. Release the front clip.
2. Rotate and detach the rear clip.
3. Slide forward, detach and remove the upper steering column shroud.

Remove the lower steering column shroud retainers and the lower steering column shroud.

1. Turn the component clockwise through 90 degrees.
2. Pivot the spring clip disengaging it from the driver airbag. Use the General Equipment: Flat-Bladed Screwdriver
3. Detach the driver airbag.

1. Turn the component clockwise through 180 degrees.
2. Pivot the spring clip disengaging it from the driver airbag. Use the General Equipment: Flat-Bladed Screwdriver
3. Detach the driver airbag.

Disconnect the electrical connectors and remove the driver airbag.
