Battery Disconnect and Connect

For information on Ford Color Coded Illustrations refer to OEM Color Coding .

Depower 

NOTE: If it is only necessary to interrupt power to the vehicle electrical system, disconnect the negative battery cable body terminal only.
  1. Remove the bolt and position the negative battery cable.

    Torque: 16 lb.ft (22 Nm)

  2. Using electrical tape, cover the negative battery cable terminal.

Disconnect 

  1. NOTE: The cowl panel is removed for clarity.

    Remove the battery covers.

    NOTE: Positioning a nonconductive cover over the positive battery terminal before loosening the negative battery cable clamp will prevent damage from a short to the positive terminal.
  2. Using a nonconductive cover, position the cover over the positive battery terminal.

  3. Loosen the nut and remove the negative battery cable from the battery terminal post.

    Torque: 44 lb.in (5 Nm)

  4. Remove the cover.

  5. Loosen the nut and remove the positive battery cable from the battery terminal post.

    Torque: 44 lb.in (5 Nm)

Connect 

  1. To connect, reverse the depower or disconnect procedure.
  2. Vehicles with: One-Touch Up and Down Front Windows. Refer to: Power Door Window Initialization .
