Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

The ABS module uses the brake booster vacuum sensor to monitor the brake booster vacuum and vacuum pump operation. When the ABS module detects a low vacuum condition in the brake booster, it activates the vacuum pump. The vacuum pump is expected to produce at least -20 mBar (0.59 In-Hg) of vacuum per second and the brake booster is fully charged when the vacuum reaches -300 mBar (8.85 In-Hg). A vacuum leak in the vacuum hose, brake booster or one of the component seals on the brake booster prevents the vacuum from achieving the required rate. A loose or corroded ground connection or electrical connector also prevents the vacuum pump from operating at peak capacity.

The SOBDMC monitors fault messages from the ABS module. When the ABS module sets DTC C1015:64, C1015:7A or C1015:7B, the SOBDMC sets a DTC and illuminates the MIL.

DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

DTC Description Fault Trigger Conditions
C0021:00 Brake Booster Performance: No Sub Type Information The SOBDMC sets this DTC when the ABS module sets DTC C0021:21, C0021:66, C0021:77 or C1015:64.
C1015:64 Vacuum Supply: Signal Plausibility Failure This DTC sets when the vacuum pump is unable to produce enough vacuum to sufficiently charge the brake booster.
C1015:7A Vacuum Supply: Fluid Leak Or Seal Failure This DTC sets when the ABS module detects a decrease in brake booster vacuum but does not detect a braking event.
C1015:7B Vacuum Supply: Low Fluid Level This DTC sets when the vacuum pump is unable to produce enough vacuum to sufficiently charge the brake booster.
P050F:00 Brake Assist Vacuum Too Low: No Sub Type Information The SOBDMC sets this DTC when the ABS module sets DTC C1015:7A or C1015:7B.
