Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

The ABS module receives BPP switch (stoplamp switch) input from the PCM through the GWM over the HS-CAN2. The ABS module compares this information against wheel speed sensor input to determine if the stoplamp switch input is valid. As vehicle speed decreases, the ABS module looks for a change in the stoplamp switch input, if vehicle speed decreases but there is no change in the stoplamp switch, the ABS module sets a DTC. An incorrectly installed stoplamp switch can cause a signal plausibility concern. An implausible signal can also be created if a driver is resting one foot on the brake pedal while using the other foot to press the accelerator.

The SOBDMC monitors fault messages from the ABS module. When the ABS module sets DTC C0044:28, C0044:41, C0044:49 or C0044:64, the SOBDMC sets a DTC and illuminates the MIL.

DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

DTC Description Fault Trigger Conditions
C0040:64 Brake Pedal Switch "A": Signal Plausibility Failure This DTC sets in continuous memory if the stoplamp switch input is continuously active for more than 6 minutes when driving faster than 20 km/h (12 mph) or after accelerating up to a speed greater than 40 km/h (24 mph) and decelerating down to a speed less than 3 km/h (2 mph) 4 times with no change in brake pedal switch input.
C0044:28 Brake Pressure Sensor "A": Signal Bias Level Out of Range / Zero Adjustment Failure This DTC sets in continuous memory if the stoplamp switch signal and the brake pressure switch signal, inside the HCU, do not match. This fault could be set by an incorrectly installed stoplamp switch or brake pedal travel sensor.
C053D:00 Brake Pressure Sensor "A" Range / Performance: No Sub Type Information The SOBDMC sets this DTC when the ABS module sets DTC C0044:28, C0044:41, C0044:49 or C0044:64.
