Engine Front Cover: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.

NOTE: Do not loosen or remove the crankshaft pulley bolt without first installing the special tools. The crankshaft pulley and the crankshaft timing sprocket are not keyed to the crankshaft. Before any repair requiring loosening or removal of the crankshaft pulley bolt, the crankshaft and camshafts must be locked in place by the special service tools, otherwise severe engine damage can occur.

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

1.

Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .

2.

Drain the cooling system. Refer to: Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling And Bleeding .

3.

Remove the following items:
1. Refer to: Crankshaft Front Seal .
2. Refer to: Valve Cover .
3. Refer to: Intake Manifold .
4. Refer to: Catalytic Converter .
5. Refer to: Accessory Drive Belt Tensioner .
6. Refer to: Generator - 1.0L EcoBoost (90kW/120PS) .

Remove the bolt and the accessory drive belt idler pulley.
Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

Detach the retainer, remove the bolts and position the coolant hose assembly aside.
Torque:

1: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

2: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

NOTE: Use a wooden block to protect the oil pan when supporting the engine. If the oil pan has been removed for oil pump drive belt removal, support the engine with the wooden block positioned under the oil pan rail of the engine cylinder block.
