  With the vehicle in N, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .

• 2.
  
  Remove the battery tray. Refer to: Battery Tray - 1.6L Duratec-16V Ti-VCT (88kW/120PS) - Sigma .

• 3.
  
  Remove the gearshift cables from the retainer.

  Remove the gearshift cables from the retainer.

  If equipped. Remove the retainers and the under body shield.

  Remove the gearshift housing access cover.

  • Disconnect the gearshift cable ends from the ball studs of the transmission selector mechanism.
  • Slide the lock sleeve and remove the gearshift cables from the bracket.

  Detach the muffler isolator, remove and discard the muffler mounting nuts.

  Remove and discard the muffler gasket.

  Remove the exhaust tailpipe isolator.

  • Remove the nuts and position aside the exhaust heat shield.
  • Remove the nuts and the center support brace.

  Remove the floor console. Refer to: Floor Console .

  • Disconnect the gearshift cable ends from the ball studs of the gearshift lever.
  • Slide the lock sleeve and remove the gearshift cables from the gearshift lever base.

  Release the retainers and remove gearshift cable mounting bracket.
