Brake Booster: Removal

Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

Remove the battery tray. Refer to: Battery Tray .
- 3.
Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe - 2.3L . Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe - 3.5L EcoBoost . Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe - 3.5L Duratec .
- 4.
If equipped with a 3.5L EcoBoost engine. Loosen the clamps, remove nut and remove the charge air cooler inlet pipe.Torque:
Clamps: 44 lb.in (5 Nm)
Nut: 53 lb.in (6 Nm)
- 6.NOTE: Make sure the master cylinder-to-brake booster seal is removed with the master cylinder.
Disconnect the brake tube fittings, remove the master cylinder nuts and remove the master cylinder and brake tubes as an assembly.
Torque:
Master cylinder nuts: 177 lb.in (20 Nm)
Brake tube fittings: 30 lb.ft (40 Nm)
- 7.NOTE: Do not service the brake pedal or brake booster without first removing the stoplamp switch. The switch must be removed with the brake pedal in the at-rest position. The switch plunger must be compressed for the switch to rotate in the bracket. Attempting to remove the switch when the plunger is extended (during pedal apply) will result in damage to the switch.
Remove the stoplamp switch. Refer to: Stoplamp Switch .

- 1.NOTE: The booster push rod clevis locking pin is a one-time use only part. Any time the pin is removed, a new one must be installed.NOTE: An 11 mm, 12-point socket or wrench can be used to compress the 2 tabs on the locking pin.
Press inward on the tabs and remove and discard the clevis pin.

Remove the booster nuts.Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
