Instrument Panel: Removal

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

Drain the coolant.Refer to: Cooling System Draining, Filling And Bleeding .
Evacuate the A/C system.Refer to: Air Conditioning (A/C) System Recovery, Evacuation And Charging .
NOTE: Make sure all openings are sealed.

Remove the evaporator pipe nut and flange and position the pipe aside.

Torque: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)

Remove both front doors.Refer to: Front Door .
Remove the transmission selector lever.Refer to: Selector Lever Assembly .

Remove the 2 LH side ground strap bolts.
Torque: 106 lb.in (12 Nm)

Remove the RH side ground strap bolt.

Remove the RH and LH instrument panel side finish panels.

NOTE: Do not allow the steering wheel to rotate while the stering column shaft is disconnect, or damage to the clockspring may result. If there is evidence that the shaft has rotated, remove and recenter the clockspring.

Remove and discard the steering column shaft-to-steering gear bolt and disconnect the steering column shaft from the steering gear.

Torque: 21 lb.ft (28 Nm)

WARNING: Turn the ignition OFF and wait one minute to deplete the backup power supply. Ignition must remain OFF until repair is complete. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.

Turn the ignition off, wait at least one minute and continue to step 19.
Remove the 3 retainers and position aside the RCM.
Torque: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)

Remove the defrost vent trim panel.

Remove the insulation at the LH front quarter glass.

Disconnect the electrical connector and push pin retainer.

NOTE: To avoid damaging the instrument panel, use an assistant to carry out the following steps.

NOTE: Remove the bolts from one side completely and support the instrument panel before removing the bolts from the opposite side.

Remove the 4 LH and 4 RH instrument panel-to-body bolts.

Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

NOTE: Make sure not to damage the instrument panel when removing the instrument panel from the vehicle.

NOTE: Make sure that all electrical connectors and wiring are not hindered before removing the instrument panel or damage to the components may occur.

Remove the instrument panel from the vehicle.
