Brake Master Cylinder: Removal
NOTE:
Do not spill brake fluid on painted or plastic surfaces or damage to the surface may occur. If brake fluid is spilled onto a painted or plastic surface, immediately wash the surface with water.

All vehicles
- 1.WARNING: Before beginning any service procedure in this service information, refer to Safety Warnings in GENERAL INFORMATION (EXCEPT HYBRID) . Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.

- 2.NOTE: Before removing the master cylinder, relieve the vacuum in the brake booster or the master cylinder O-ring seal may be drawn into the brake booster, causing brake booster failure and increased brake pedal effort.
Fully apply and release the brake pedal 5 times.
Vehicles with manual transmission
- 3.
Disconnect the battery. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
- 4.
Disconnect the clutch master cylinder supply tube.
All vehicles
- 5.
Disconnect the brake tube fittings and detach the brake tube retainer.Torque
: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
- 6.
Remove the nuts and the brake master cylinder. Discard the nuts.Torque
: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
- 7.NOTE: Make sure that the master cylinder-to-booster seal is removed with the master cylinder.
Disconnect the electrical connector and remove the brake master cylinder.
